This plant is sold in a 2.5L plastic nursery pot.
Light:
The Persian shield requires high lighting and don't do particularly well in lower lit areas. If kept indoors, keep it close to a window or in a very well lit room. They can tolerate partial direct sun but do be careful over the Summer months as too much will burn the leaves.
Water:
These plants are very heavy drinkers and over Summer you will find they need watering 1-2 times per week. Wait until the very top layer of soil drys out, then thoroughly drench. They don't tolerate dryer conditions very well so remember not to treat it like a philodendron. Be careful not to water too frequently as this can lead to root rot.
Humidity:
Persian Sheild are hungry for humidity. If you allow the leaves to dry out too much you'll find they'll go crispy and brown at the edges. They'll benefit from daily mistings and avoid placing in areas where you may get draughts. If you have a very bright bathroom, these guys should do well there.
Fertiliser:
These plants will benefit from monthly feeding in the spring and summer months. 1/2 the recommended dosage is advisable.
Pests:
The Strobilanthes is very prone to spider mite, mealybugs and aphids, check regularly and treat as required. Wipe both the upper and underside of the leaves or give it a good hose down once in a while too.
