Commonly known as the Furry Feather or Velvet Calathea due to having tiny hairs covering the leaves, giving the plant a furry feel. The Rufibarba is a taller Calathea variety with elongated green leaves and dark purple undersides.

This plant is sold in a 12cm plastic nursery pot.

Water:⠀
Calatheas can be quite sensitive to "tap" water. Fluoridated water can cause the leaves to brown from leaf-burn, we recommend filtering your water or collecting rainwater. They like to be evenly watered and kept moist but not soggy - they don't like to sit in water.⠀'Little and Often' as a watering policy works well for these plants, be sure to use enough water so the full root ball gets watered.

Light:
Loves bright indirect light, harsh direct sun will burn the leaves and fade the colour. They can handle low light conditions as well however they won't thrive.⠀⠀⠀

Soil:⠀
A standard high-quality indoor plant mix will be fine for Calatheas.

Humidity:
They love high humidity levels. You'll notice browning along the leaf tips if the humidity isn't high enough. You can place on a shallow pebble tray filled with water and mist regularly. Even outside in warm summer rain or bring into the bathroom when you have a hot shower or bath from time to time to give an extra boost.⠀⠀

Temperature:
Prefers warm to high temperatures ideally between 18-32C. Can cope with lower temperatures however you might lose a leave or two. Avoid draughts and ensure the plant has good ventilation.

Fertiliser:
Use a balanced fertiliser once a month during Spring and Summer, use a weak dose - halve the recommended measurement.⠀⠀

Toxicity:
Safe for children and animals.⠀

Height and Growth Rate:
The ultimate height of approx 1m. Moderately fast growing in the spring/summer months.

Origin:
South America
